mermaidmeditation-deactivated20 asked: help!? i've been growing my hair out for a looooooong while, but it's gotten so damaged that i couldn't just give it TLC, i need a cut.

long story short:
instead of some layering and a trim to keep it healthy, she lopped off several inches (f.m.l.)
so, now my hair is significantly shorter (just below shoulder length) and i have no idea what to do with it..

any advice, idea for styling it, websites/blogs/vlogs, or tips? thanks!

Oh man. This is the same reason I refuse to get mine cut.

The best thing to do with it at this point, to prevent the same thing from happening again, is just to try not to damage it. Don’t colour it too much, don’t use curling irons and straighteners too much. Rock your natural hair whenever you can. I don’t understand why so many people hate their natural hair.. unless it looks something like this.. they have nothing to worry about.

Anyway.

Like I was saying, try not to damage it too much. I learned that a long time ago. Used to straighten my hair every single day, and it got pretty long, then I went to get it cut, and the girl cut off way more than I thought she would need to.

Basically it’s just a big vicious circle. The more you damage, the more that gets cut off.

I’m also convinced that if you take care of your hair properly, you don’t NEED to get it cut as often, if at all. I haven’t had a hair cut in almost a year.

Also, as far as what to do with your hair now,

go through these and see what you can find. Videos are generally pretty helpful, because you can see the length of the models hair, and how to do it.

I’ll give you some blogs as well, but I’m not sure how helpful those will be for instruction.

1. VideoHairstyles

2. Her Hairstyle Blog (this one is a lot of posts, not so much photos and how-tos, but it could be helpful.)

3. Cosmos Hair Articles.  Cosmo is GREAT for hair advice, tips and how-tos. Go through those articles and see if theres anything that sparks your interest. I always use cosmo hair tips.

4. Great Hair Blog.

I hope some of these help. And good luck with your hair.

And remember… Rock your natural hair for a while! Style and do it up less often than you normally would, and take good care of it. Use the right shampoos, conditioners, and out of shower products.
